Todd, Portillo’s is definitely my favorite hot dog place. The italian beef’s are rather plain, though, so don’t feel too bad for missing them. Instead of getting them chicago style next time, try a chili cheese dog. I know you’ve had those before but not like these.

Also, next time you’re in chicago you MUST go to Hot Dougs. You can google them and find their site. Its run by a guy named…Doug. He’s really cool and comes up with some great food. They have a Foie Gras covered Duck sausage and duck fat fries. They also rotate out plenty of specials, such as alligator, rattle snake, venison, elk, and all sorts of other strange things. They all come with really nice cheeses and usually some sort of nice sauce or reduction. Basically, its fine dining in hot dog form. You need to try it.
